Halloween Party 2009

It's been a while since I've updated my Blog, but I did promise to post pics of our Costumes for this years Halloween Party. We went as Dia De los Muertos and we had so much fun with friends and live music. I painted my own face using my makeup and some Ben Nye Theatre makeup but I can attest that the paint will not crack or come apart, it stayed put the whole night! Leave a Comment!! :) Hope all of you'll have a Great Fantastic Halloween!!

Dorado!!! <3

Today's Blog will be dedicated to our family pet, our Chocolate Labrador, DORADO!!!

It's so special to raise a Pet, they become a part of the family. They have feelings and their own Character that makes them fit in the family perfectly. We got him back in April of 2009 and we've raised him through sleepless nights and a bad case of Puppy Shingles have spent numerous times at the vet and glad to report that we made it!! ha!!
Growing up, we never had a pet. I remember when I was little I would feed the street dogs and cats and my Parents would shooo them away. I always said when I grow up I am gonna have a farm and I am gonna have alot of animals on my farm.
Well, I am grown up now and I don't own a farm :( ha!! but I do have a Pet and he is the cutest most sweetest thing. We love him to death and our boys are just so attached to him. I hope he lasts us many years cause if anything would ever happen to him I know we would be crushed.
Much Love to our Loveable, Huggable, Unbelievable.....Dorado (Named by my husband's favorite fish Mahi Mahi in Spanish)

Food For Thought

(This Pic was taken by me because I was paying at the register at Old Navy and couldn't find him when I looked at the display there he was standing very still) LMAO!!! I had to snap this pic.

This is my youngest son his name is Aaron aka "Helmet" (cause every summer he lets his hair grow out and well his hair is not thin it's thick and grows sticking right up) and he is 9 yrs old. He is the life of the Party and definately keeps us all grounded.

Well, yesterday afternoon when I got home from work he says, "Mom I have my report card I need you to sign", "ok" I said. As I was going to sign his report card he tells me Mom, "What does High Waters Mean?" , I said Why? He says, "Well some of the kids at school said I have High water pants on, LOOK!! I looked at him and his fingers pointing down towards his ankles and I could see them. I asked, "What the heck happened to your pants? Did they shrink? JUST TAKE THEM OFF!!" (I was visibly upset cause I just bought him pants to start school and well, sometimes these kids grow out of these clothes very fast but damn he still has some with tags on them) and he keeps on and on, on how he was the center of attention all day today (with a Big Smile on his face) As I grabbed the pants from him I saw size 10. WTH?! He hasn't worn a size 10 in 3 years. He wears a size 14 (Once they grow out of their clothes or have worn them out to the threads I put them in a box for a Garage sale or simply throw them away if they are in bad condition) How could it have slipped by me? How did I not notice him as he got off my truck as I dropped him off at school? LMAO!! Man, I am turning into my worst nightmare! I then asked Aaron, "How did you squeeze your buns in here?" he said, (Laughing hard) "Well I sucked it in as best as I could and it wasn't easy". hahahahaha!!! Geez, I couldn't stop laughing. I never found out How those Size 10 jeans made it back into our pile of clothes but somehow they sneaked back in.

These are the times that will be remembered for a Long Long time. That's the good thing with this kido, it takes alot to get the best of him.

So Food for thought, MAKE SURE YOU WATCH OUT FOR HIGH WATER PANTS!!!! LMAO!!!

Have a Happy Thirsty Thursday!!!

If there is a weakness of mine it would have to be shoes!! I mean don't get me wrong I love purses, jewelry, clothes, and bargains!! but SHOES!!! OMG!! It's like heaven for me.

Anyway, I went to our local Mall and looked around and asked around for any sales and they told me Dillard's was having a 70% off sales on selected items. OMG!!! Sale?! Dammit!! YEAH!!! So I am wearing them on this Beautiful Warm Sunny Hump Day with some of my MAC lip gloss and some costume jewelry my cousin gave me for my Birthday that was just gorgeous!! I am really feeling like a million bucks!! hahahaha!!!! Ain't no one gonna bring me down today...not in these Gianni Bini Shoes. Have a Good Day Everyone!!!! :)

Tuesday Lunch Date

My Mom called me for a lunch date at her home. Her cooking beats any Restaurant I know, cause like most of you'll aint nothin better than your Mom's cookin. She made Fideo with Beans (Favorite Mexican Spaghetti Dish) often made at my Mom's. Bag of Beans cost about a buck and a box of Fideo (Vermicilli) under a buck and some homemade Tortillas priceless!!! YUMMY!!!! :) Oh and I almost forgot the Sweet Iced Tea. I sometimes think there is gonna come a day in my life when I am gonna wish with all my heart I could taste my Mom's Fideo but for now I am going to savor every spoonful!! :) I always look forward to Lunch Dates with my Mom and bonding conversations that only a daughter could share with her Mother. Funny how something so simple could be so Important and meaningful to me.

Much Needed Rain

South Texas has been getting some much needed rain showers lately. We were in drought for about 11 months. Well, no drought no more!! I think all of us here in South Texas have spent the last several months doing the rain dance. ha!! YEAH!!! I didn't mind getting some rain drops on me or didn't mind the muddy shoe prints my kids (and our dog) brought inside. In fact, it gave me this warm fuzzy feeling in my heart. At night you can even hear the crickets singing as the rain comes, the little Birds playing in the puddles of water on the sides of the roads. The Big Sun Flowers in the Farm fields seemed like they were trying to reach for the skies to absorb the water first. So I would just like to report that we are all Happy here in South Texas and enjoying these Rain Showers!

Thank You Jesus!!

Happy Birthday Mom!!

Happy Birthday Wishes to my Crazy yet loving Mom. :)

We were at one of our Craft events a few months ago and I snapped this picture of my Mother you can see her to the right on hands and knees trying to connect some wires and I don't think she was suppose to be doing that. ha!!! Man, I love my Mom!! She was wearing a dress and people were walking and looking at all the stuff that we had in our booth and she's over there with these wires trying to plug them in. hahahahahaha!!!! I was trying not to shake as I snapped this photo. Keep in mind my Mom is turning 63 today.

My Dad goes to bed early at about 7PM every night since I can remember so my Mom spends her evenings working on crafts. This particular evening I was at her house visiting with her as she was working on some projects and it was cold outside so the "Gas" Space heater was on in the living room. I saw her working on a wreath and putting some decorations on the wreath and all of a sudden out of no where she grabs a can of spray paint and starts to spray this wreath. It all seemed slow motion NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I shouted and she looks at me through her bifocal lenses What's wrong? she says I said Mom you are gonna set this place on fire and Dad is sleeping?! She says, " Pssshh I do this all the time so she proceeded to spray. lmao!!! I snapped a photo from the entrace of her front door with one foot out and one foot in. ha!!!

She definately is one of the lights in my life. I love her dearly. Today is her Birthday and I wanted to dedicate today's blog to her. My Mom may not be perfect but she's perfect to me. I can only wish to be 1/2 of the wonderful and giving person she is.

Hump Day

So I really got nothing to put in here so let me scan my brain and just blurt out what comes to mind....

I am really excited about this craft show we are going to be in!! I enjoy making crafts and sewing so on my mind I have this idea of a Dallas Cowboys Apron but not just an ordinary Apron I like to make designer aprons. So I am just grasping at ideas but I am thinking, "How can I make Dallas Cowboy Fabric look prissy?" I am thinking polka dots, lace, and was thinking a soft pink but who knows.

My Baby Boys (well they aren't babies anymore but they are to me) 12 yrs old and 9 yrs old are playing football!!! YEAH!!!!

Thinking about my Halloween Costume for 2009

Today I was sitting here and thinking What will our Halloween Costume be this year? Last year we were invited to a Big Halloween Bash given by the Lopez family in the town I live in. It's an Adults Only Halloween Party and they have music, games, and prizes. We attended last year for the first time and we had alot of fun. I Love Tim Burton he is our family favorite director...Edward Scissorhands, 1989's Batman, The Corpse Bride, and Coraline just to name a few. So picking out our costume was easy and had to get really creative. I recycled a Bridesmaid dress that I had sitting in my closet and painted our faces to resemble that of the characters in the movie. Everyone got a kick out of our Costumes and some didn't know what we were. We left early but was told that we would've won most scariest costume and dinner for two at Macaroni Grill ha!!! And the winners last year were a couple that went as Adam and Eve, those were two very creative costumes and funny!!! I wish I would've gotten a picture of them! So, I am biting my bottom lip and thinking what can I do for this year? ugh!!! I want something Unique and creative. hmmmm.....Stay tuned for October to see with what I come up with!! I know it's still a ways away but I need to prepare for it now or atleast have an idea!! If you have an idea share it PleaSE!!!!! :) Have a Happy Hump Day!!!

He did what?!

Well, my husband suprised me with a Brand new Singer sewing machine. OMG!!! I love it!! Oh wait a minute this means I have to give up my old faithful, break your back heavy sewing machine? :( Ok. So I will do it only because I think it's time to upgrade. I've had ol' faithful since I taught myself how to sew 9 years ago. I didn't want to invest in a new one cause I didn't know if I'd like it. So we are moving forward with the sewing projects and as soon as I think I've made lead way someone else orders an apron. ha!! It's all good. I enjoy sewing so it's not a problem for me.

My Roots

My Roots

Was looking for a pic in my files and found these pics, I had taken last year for Christmas. They made me laugh and had to share.

This is my Mom and Dad "My Roots" I love them to death. Very much Old Skool, God fearing, hard working, buena gente.

My Mom reminds me of a rose with thorns. Don't let her Beauty and 5ft petite frame mistake you she is feisty!

My Dad reminds me of an old antique car; he hasn't changed his hairstyle, style of clothing, style of shoes ever since I can remember. A 100% cotton collared shirt, a pair of jeans my Mom has to hem, and his flip flops.

Let me tell you my Dad HATES taking pictures but my Mom was adament on taking these pics (she gets in her mood) so here's a collage to them. Enjoy.

First take of the day, my Dad comes out of the shower sporting this OLD hairstyle, I guess he wore as a teenager. He use to tell me if you don't pass your grades I am going to show up to your school with this hairstyle. Thank God I never did fail. ha!! My Mom didn't even realize it until she saw me laughing hysterically. She tells him, "You better go fix your hair!" So he heads back to the Bathroom.......

Second take, comes out of the bathroom again. My Mom couldn't help it this time but laugh. I was tearing up with laughter. He sported a Waldo haircut that he does every now and then when he's in a good mood and wants to make us laugh. My Mom tells him ok hurry up and go brush your hair. My Dad heads back into the Bathroom......

Take Three; Chihuahas!! Open your eyes!!

Take four; Again?!

Take 5; Boy is he in trouble!! ha!!!

Snapped them!!! ha!! My Mom didn't want his flip flops to come out in the pic. I said to her why not? that is my Dad, a part of My Roots.

NKOTB

I wanted to dedicate today's blog to my Wonderful experience of being able to go see NKOTB in Concert in San Antonio, TX!! A band that when I was in 6th grade was totally in love with and had posters and bedding in my bedroom!! ha!! On my school folders I had written Angela Loves Joey, created dance routines to most of their music, hated every girl in their videos. I wore a side pony tail with my skirt and tights underneath with a Big Joey New Kids on the Block button on it. Bought every cassette they ever made and adored my Sam and Libby shoes. Oh, Man those were the good ol days. Fast Forward to today, I am a mother and in my 30's and I am called "Old Fashion" by my boys but at that concert I was a kid again and suddenly I was in fashion as I looked around me in that center to see that all these ladies were about my age and they came to see the same band. I couldn't help but think that most of these ladies are probably Moms now too, I think I even shed a tear that night. ha!! I got to experience it with my Best and grade school friends. It was definately a highlight of my life and something that I will never forget. Some people might say I'm crazy but who cares I am what I am and do as I please. We acted like 11 and 12 year olds again that night. Screamin and Hollering and singing to every song like we had never forgotten the lyrics and danced. So worth every minute of it!

Pillowcase dresses not only for little girls

After my niece saw some of the little pillowcase dresses I was making, she immediately wanted one and wanted it to look retro. So, we hit the fabric store and found some fabric and came back home and sewed away. Look at how it came out!! It's soooo darn cute!!! We also made a broach out of matching pink polka dot fabric. Let us prove to you that pillowcases are not only for little girls.

It's a punk baby boy! Diaper cake

Baby Halen Rocks!!! Ha!! Pic posted on 8-04-09

My good friend Brandy had her baby on Wed. July 29th of 2009. Halen Cocek weighed a whopping 9lbs. 1oz. So I will be going over to meet the little guy today. I wanted to make Brandy something special for her and her bundle of joy. So, I decided to buy her a package of diapers and well I found some cute punky shoes and baby hoodies at Spencers. I then bought me some matching ribbon and Abracadabra a Diaper cake was made. :) Well, atleast my version of a Diaper cake. I didn't use glue so everything was hard to stay still but I managed to make it work. I hope she likes it.

The Sweetheart Apron

The Sweetheart Apron
Yesterday evening I worked on a no bib apron. I selected an old Pattern that I had, I am not sure of the year? I am guessing maybe 1950's. I loved How full this style of skirt was. So, I selected a Polka Dot fabric to give it a more Retro look and laced the heart pockets to give it a sexy look as well. I almost made a matching Guarder for it too. I think I will. ha!! I wonder what the husbands or better halves would think? When they would come home after a long day at work to find you in the kitchen wearing a sexy apron and cooking a delicious meal. hmmmm..... I am sure they would be flabbergasted.

Nerd Tie T-Shirt

Monday Night Project

Nerd Tie
I found this really cool fabric at our local fabric store and had to buy 1/2 yard because I figured I'd find something for it. It's my first try at a Nerd tie shirt I hope to make some more. All I did was cut out a tie shape from my fabric and sewed it on this T-shirt and I thought It looks cute and funky. It's cute simple and fast.

Loaded Mashed Potato Casserole

This recipe was given to me by my friend Ms. Mama V

Loaded Mashed potato casserole

These mashed potatoes are full of savory flavor. They'll definitely be a hands-down favorite with the hungry crew who gets invited over when these potatoes are on the menu.

5 1/2 c mashed potatoes
1/2 c milk
8 oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened
8 oz. container sour cream
2 t dried parsley
1 t garlic salt
1/4 t ground nutmeg
3/4 c shredded Cheddar cheese
6 slices of bacon crisply cooked
and crumbled

Combine all ingredients except Cheddar cheese and bacon in a large mixing bowl. Beat at medium high speed with an electric mixer until smooth. Spoon into a lightly greased 13"x9" baking dish; top with Cheddar cheese and bacon. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 10 more minutes or until cheese melts. Serves 12

Pillowcase Dress

Very Easy Weekend Project!!! The Pillowcase dress

Check out my version of a Pillowcase Dress I found on the internet, I made it my weekend project. I loved how it came out and was cheap and very easy to make. This dress can be worn by all ages and is weather ready. It can be worn with bloomers underneath for the summer or in the winter with a long sleeve shirt and pants underneath. I will give this as a gift to a relative for a birthday party next weekend. Hope she likes it.

You will need:
1 yard of 45" fabric
2 yards of grosgrain ribbon or satin if you'd like (I bought a little more for a hair bow)
Fray check
Let's get started:
1. Match the selvage edges of your fabric, press the fold and cut the fabric along the fold. You should have 2 equal sections
2. Press a 1/4" hem along each of the long edges of the front and the back. Fold over and press again to eliminate any raw edges. Stitch each hem.
3. Press down 1/4" along the top (the edges that was the fold) of the front and the back. Press down another 1" to form the casing. If you are using larger ribbon. you will need to make a larger casing. Stitch.
4. With the right sides together, stitch the front and the back together starting at the bottom and stopping about 5 ½” from the top to leave an opening for the armholes. Go over the top of this stitch multiple times to prevent the seam from pulling apart.
5. Press open the seams of the inside of the dress.
6. Press the hem on the bottom of the dress about 1”, and then press up another 1” so that no selvage edge is visible. Stitch hem.
7. Cut your grosgrain ribbon into 1 yard strips. Apply fray check to the ends of the ribbons to prevent fraying.
8. Run the ribbon through the casing. Pull an equal amount of ribbon out of each end. Stitch the ribbon in place in the middle of the casing. Go over the stitch at least twice. Repeat the process for the back of the dress.
**I sewed ribbon at the bottom of this dress to give it a more prissy look, but you can make it without.
